These Camping Locations In Ohio Are Awesome

If you’ve been thinking about your next reprieve from the day-to-day grind, we can point the way to some great camping locations in Ohio. Below are three great parks to consider for your outdoor adventure.

West Branch State Park in Ravenna is open year-round and boasts over 8,000 acres of wilderness. Its many lakes, streams, fields, and forests offer all terrain types. The largest lake is 2,650 acres and features small, sheltered bays, no-wake zones, and private beaches. You can book your campsite up to about six months in advance and they offer lots of options, including non-electric equestrian sites and sites with handicapped accessibility. This park is clean and well-maintained, with many new renovations, modern buildings, and paved roads.

Consider Wayne National Forest in Nelsonville for a scenic getaway in the Appalachian foothills. The forest covers about 375 square miles, with over 300 miles of trails, and allows ATVs and horses. There are some fees and permitting requirements, so make sure to find out which ones you’ll need before off-roading. A map is available on the website. Fishing and boating areas include Lake Vesuvius and smaller lakes and ponds, which are all frequently stocked. You’ll also have access to the Ohio River and many streams throughout the park. Wayne National Forest offers RV camping sites from April 15th until Fall.

Hickory Lakes Campground in West Salem is perfect for a safe family getaway. This is a smaller, cozier park which provides an ideal camping environment for kids. Firearms and ATVs are not allowed, and the park even has a “quiet time” designation from 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. The park is open from April 15th through September 30th, and hosts a variety of events for all ages throughout this period.
