Most people don't sleep as well when they are away from home. This can even be true when you own an RV. You are used to your own bed and routines. You may be more comfortable in your home than you are on the road. However, this doesn't mean that you can't get a good night's sleep when you are traveling in your RV.

Here are some tips to help you sleep better when you are in your RV.
Bring your own pillow.
Though your mattress is important, your pillow can also make a difference in how you sleep. It is important that you have a pillow that fits right under your head and neck, keeping your body in a natural alignment. If not, you may struggle to get comfortable enough to fall asleep or you may wake up with a neck and headache.
Because of this, you really should bring your own pillow with you every time that you sleep in your RV. It can really make a difference in your sleep.
Bring things from home
It often helps to bring some things from home to help you sleep. If you sleep with a special blanket or stuffed animal, don’t leave home without it. Drink tea before you go to bed every night? Make sure that you pack plenty of it while you are away. Wear special socks or slippers to bed? You don’t want to forget them.
Though these little things may seem silly to you, they can actually help you fall asleep when you aren’t in the comfort of your own bed.
Keep your bedtime routine.
Most people have a bedtime routine. They may take a shower, brush their teeth, read a little bit, and then go to bed. They may watch a television show to relax them before crawling under the covers.
Though you may not think much about the things that you do every night, the truth is that your body starts to prepare for bed during this time. If you are able to do these things when you are traveling in your RV, your body will start to get ready to sleep so you can fall asleep easier when it is time to go to bed.
Keep the room as dark as possible.
The simple truth is that our bodies are affected by light and darkness. They were made to wake up when the sun comes up and go to bed when it is dark. However, with artificial light, our bodies can really be affected. They don’t know when they should start to prepare for bed because we can keep the light on all night long!
For this reason, you should start turning the lights down as you prepare for bed. Once you are in bed, you should have the room as dark as possible. Remove any night lights that are in the room. If the room still seems light, you may want to travel with a sleep mask. These are cheap and easy to pack so you can have darkness when and wherever you decide to sleep.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time to Sleep
You need to make sure that you are getting enough sleep when you are away. Too many people don’t make it a priority when they are traveling. They may go out late at night, wake up early, and try to fit as many activities into a trip as they possibly can. This is especially true if you are going home for a weekend and want to spend as much time as you can with all of your family and friends.
That being said, if you only give yourself five hours a night to sleep, you may be lucky if you get four and a half. You will be exhausted by the time that you get home. You need to make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to unwind, do your bedtime routine, and get enough sleep, no matter what else you have to do.
Do what you can about the noises around you.
The truth is that we get used to the noises that our house makes, including sounds that are common outside. Many people who live by train tracks don’t even notice them go by after a while. If you live in the city, you may be used to racket that you hear all night long. If you live in the country, the quiet could be all that you hear.
When you are traveling in your RV, you are going to be exposed to noises that you may not be used to. Staying in a city when you are used to the quiet of the country could cause you to wake up all night long due to the traffic. If you stay by a train station, you may get woken up every time that a train goes by.
So, what can you do? Most people recommend a white noise or sound machine. These produce sounds to drown out the other noises and help you get a good night’s sleep, no matter what is going on outside.
The best way to make sure that you get enough sleep while you are traveling in your RV is to bring your own pillow and some comforts from home. The pillows that you keep in your RV just aren’t the same as your own, meaning that you could wake up with a neck and headache, if you even get comfortable enough to get to sleep. You may also want to bring your stuffed animal or favorite blanket to help you fall asleep.
However, you also need to make sure that sleep is a priority. Though you may want to fit it all it, you shouldn’t do that at your own expense. You will just go home exhausted and need a vacation from your vacation! Give yourself plenty of time to follow your normal routine before you crawl into bed. You may even need to give yourself a little extra time, just to make sure that you get your usual amount of sleep!
